Court orders Nigeria Immigration Serice to return Odili’s seized passport

The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) and its Comptroller-General to return the passport confiscated from the previous Rivers Governor Peter Odili to him.

Justice Inyang Ekwo gave the order on Monday in a decision on a fundamental rights enforcer lawsuit brought by Odili.

Justice Ekwo declared the seizure of Odili’s Passport as being unconstitutional.

The NIS justified its actions stated that it had taken the passport in response to a demand in this regard from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) due to the fact that Odili was under its watchlist.
