Lisa Michelle Bonet was born in San Francisco, California, on November 16, 1967.


Family Background:

By her father’s marriage to Deborah Church, she has five half-sisters and two half-brothers. Bonet attended Birmingham High School in Van Nuys, California, then went on to the Celluloid Actors Studio in North Hollywood to study acting.


Bonet got the role of Denise Huxtable on The Cosby Show, the second oldest child of Bill Cosby and Phylicia Rashad, after competing in beauty pageants and starring in guest spots on television series as a child. She took a break from The Cosby Show in 1987 to star in the spin-off series A Different World, which centered on Denise’s college years.

That year, Bonet, at 19, starred alongside Mickey Rourke in the film Angel Heart as Epiphany Proudfoot, a 17-year-old girl. Several seconds of a graphic sequence she shared with Rourke (filmed when she was 18) were cut out of the film to keep the R rating. In Interview magazine, it was followed by a topless centerspread.

Relationship and Personal Life

Bonet married American rock singer Lenny Kravitz in Las Vegas on November 16, 1987, her 20th birthday. Bonet reflected on their friendship:

On December 1, 1988, Bonet gave birth to their daughter Zo Isabella Kravitz.

Kravitz and she divorced in 1993. Although she still goes by the name Lisa Bonet professionally, Bonet legally changed her name to Lilakoi Moon in 1995.

Bonet started dating Jason Momoa, an actor, in 2005. They tied the knot in October of 2017.  Bonet and Momoa have two children, a daughter who was born in July 2007 and a son who was born in December 2008.  Momoa and Bonet announced in January 2022 that they were divorcing.
