EFCC Distances Self From Dismissed Staff Who Still Parades Himself As One Its Operatives
Mr. Peter Akpanke, a dismissed employee of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, has been distanced from the EFCC.
The commission said it received reports that Mr. Peter continues to pose as one of its agents and has been harassing and extorting unsuspecting members of the public in Akwa Ibom and Cross River states, according to a statement released on its official Twitter page.
The disclaimer also advised members of the public to avoid contacting Akpanke on any matters pertaining to the commission
Read the following statement.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) wishes to inform the public that a certain Peter Akpanke is no longer a member of the Commission’s staff and has no authority to represent the Commission or conduct business in its name.
Following reports that Akpanke, who was fired from the EFCC, had been impersonating a genuine EFCC operative and using the false identity to harass and extort unsuspecting members of the public, especially in the states of Akwa Ibom and Cross River, the disclaimer became essential. Members of the public are prohibited from interacting with Akpanke or bestowing any privileges due to a law enforcement officer, according to the Commission.
They should also report any additional solicitations from Akpanke to the nearest EFCC or police station.
