Foreigner Who Sold Over 450 Rifles To Bandits And 4 Others Arrested In Zamfara
The police in Zamfara have detained five infamous suspects involved in banditry, robbery, cattle rustling, and illegal weapons possession.
The suspects were paraded at the Police Headquarters in Gusau, the state capital, on Friday, May 14.
The suspects were apprehended as a result of a partnership between the police and the state leadership of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, according to state police spokesperson Shehu Mohammed (MACBAN).
The suspects accused of terrorizing various communities in Zamfara, Kaduna, Katsina, and Niger States in the north-central part of the country were found with four AK-49 rifles, nine cartridges, 960 live ammunition, and assorted charms.
Among those arrested is a Nigerien citizen, Shehu Ali Kachalla, a notorious gunrunner who confessed to have been in the business for more than three years. He revealed that he has sold no fewer than 450 rifles to different criminal gangs across the north-west region.
Abubakar Ali, one of the kidnappers, announced that he operates in the Kagarko and Chikun Local Government Areas of Kaduna State. He also admitted to having been in the criminal industry for three years and killing five of his victims who couldn’t afford to pay ramson to be set free.
Ali also revealed that their leader pays them between N600,000 and N700,000 in any kidnapping that results in a ransom of N20 million or more.
