In a statement released following the event, the State Commissioner for Information and Culture, Julius Ishaya Lepes, claimed that Goje is hell-bent on bringing back ‘his brainchild (Kalare)’ to cause mayhem and disturb the state’s tranquil atmosphere.
“The Gombe State Government has strongly condemned the breakdown of peace in the state capital caused by the arrival of Sen. Muhammad Danjuma Goje, a former Governor of the state and Senator representing Gombe Central,” the statement said.
“The previous Governor, in his customary fashion, gathered armed thugs from various LGAs under the guise of following him from the airport into the State capital for reasons best known to him.”
“Recall that the same guy financed some thugs at the last Eid el-Kabir Sallah celebration, who threw caution to the wind and went on a rampage, killing two people.” The same event occurred out just last week in Deba, Yamaltu Deba LGA, at the Senator’s request.
“It’s regrettable that Goje hasn’t changed his ways and is hell-bent on bringing back his brainchild (Kalare) to wreak havoc on Gombe State’s serene atmosphere.”
“Gombe state has experienced relative peace and harmony, thanks in large part to Governor Inuwa Yahaya’s determination and avowed commitment in that direction, and the government will not stand by and watch desperate politicians unleash terror and violence on innocent citizens to the point of killing people.”
“While sympathizing with the victims’ families, the government applauds the security agencies for intervening quickly and bringing the heinous situation under control.”
“His Excellency, Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, as the State’s Chief Security Officer, would not shirk his obligations and will do everything in his power to defend the lives and the citizenry’s property The government will ensure that anyone responsible for the heinous conduct, no matter how high up in the ranks, are brought to justice,” the statement said.
