Victor Osimhen: NapoliFc Start I was cleaning gutters for 20 Naira’

The 22-year-old Super Eagles and Napoli star Victor Osimhen has unveiled his “grass to grace” story. It reveals the way he worked in a menial job in order to make it through his transition into professional football.

He used to perform simple tasks such as clearing gutters, bringing water in order to live.

“Most people are familiar when I say this because they have come through even worse [situations] than mine and where I grew up, nothing is promised there because whatever you want to get, you have to work so hard for it,” the man said in a quote in Head Topics.

“I remember back when I was growing as a child, I used to clean the gutters for 20 nairas to my landlord. I also I did some housekeeping for my neighbours near my home, and re-queue water at a cost of 80 Naira I believe.


“I enjoyed doing these things since I was convinced that when I was working so hard to earn this amount of money that this was worth it to me. I was aware of how I could spend the money to help my family.

“While growing as a child my brother was selling newspapers, and my sister sold used to sell oranges. I was caught in the crowd with water and have to chase cars and giving them water to earn the money. I believe that these experiences made me stronger in the real world.

“I am extremely grateful for the place I am in today due to what I’ve been through. It shaped me into the person I am today. I am truly thankful to God for this.”


On the journey to fame, the striker stated: “It all started like a dream, a boyhood dream from the slum and I feel like I have achieved this feat, it’s one of my biggest achievements in life.”
